Inbound Logistics Manager Safaricom Job in Kenya 2012
Ref: FIN – ILM – JANUARY 2012
Reporting to Senior Manager-Supply Chain Operations, the job holder will manage the company’s inbound logistics processes by ensuring timely delivery of material from the company’s suppliers to the company designated storage points in order to meet company requirements through efficient and effective metrics and monitoring tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimally manage clearing and forwarding processes as well as lead times from the country of collection to destination against agreed KPI’s.
- Capture any costs arising from demurrage charges and penalty and allocate responsibility for recovery.
- Supply risk management by ensuring all import shipments are marine covered.
- Manage the PVoC expectations for Safaricom shipments and verify the inbound logistics invoice and forward to finance for payment.
- Develop and review SLA’s between Safaricom and contracted clearing and forwarding partner on a monthly basis.
- Implement and maintain inbound logistics policy master data for all equipment to support the network roll out planning process.
- Plan monthly shipment movements as per supplier promise dates to meet the company’s strategic objectives.
- Manage channel use exceptions by ensuring adherence to channel use policy.
- Conduct an OTIF performance evaluation of goods delivery and manage handover to shipment turnaround time.
- Effectively manage existing inbound logistics processes.
- Development of world class standards in process through re-engineering of the existing inbound logistics processes and development of new processes.
- To continuously evaluate oracle performance to support inbound logistics processes and if necessary design changes to cater for changing business needs.
- Manage the selection, growth, development performance and motivation of staff in the section.
- Produce accurate and timely reports in accordance with the Supply Chain Metrics framework.
- B. Com/Business/Economics or equivalent with at least 5 years experience in Supply Chain Function especially in Inbound Logistics or Clearing & Forwarding.
- Additional professional qualification in Supply Chain will also be considered e.g. CSCP, CIPS, and CILT.
- Computer literate, proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Oracle will be an added advantage.
- Must demonstrate drive and result oriented.
- Must have Sound Judgment and must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- At least 8 years experience in procurement with (two year of which should be in category sourcing management;
- Excellent understanding of category sourcing strategies, prequalification and vetting of suppliers, development of tender documentation and tendering processes, procurement performance management tools, skills in management of suppliers performance, international sourcing/ commercial relationships and supply contract management;
- Very Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Team player with excellent influencing skills;
- High level of Initiative and self-drive;
- Problem solving and decision-making skills;
- Very strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain relationship with all stake holders.
