IEBC Opens Voter Register for Inspection, Kenyans Have 14 Days to Inspect Voter Roll

Kenya’s electoral commission has opened the voter register for public inspection. One can confirm their registration details by sending their identity card or passport number to short text message code 15872.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) communications manager Tabitha Mutemi said besides the SMS option Kenyans can verify their details by visiting their respective registration centres.

You can also visit the IEBC website http://vote.iebc.or.ke and key in the ID or passport number to access your details, Ms Mutemi said.

The name of the voter, county, constituency, ward and station in which they are registered will be displayed in any of the platforms one opts to use.

Ms Mutemi asked voters to visit their polling stations in case the details supplied were wrong.

The voter register will be open for scrutiny for two weeks, after a month-long registration that closed on December 18 last year.

IEBC chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan said the commission opted to issue an SMS number for checking voter details after they found out that 60 per cent preferred this method while only 10-15 per cent would go to voter centre to verify the information.

The final voters’ list will also be made accessible to the public on the IEBC website and available to political parties.

The commission is also expected to release the names of people who registered using fake documents and those who registered more than once.

The names of the individuals, who face arrest, will be deleted from the record
