Construction Company Quantity Surveyor, Administrative Assistant and Accounts Assistant Jobs in Kenya 2012

We are a dynamic medium sized construction company involved in the Building & Civil Engineering and Real Estate sectors.
We are looking to recruit highly qualified and motivated individuals, to fill the below positions
 
Quantity Surveyor
Reporting to the Projects Manager, the primary duties and responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor shall include but not be limited to the following project pre-contract and post-contract tasks :-
  • Preparation of budget/preliminary cost estimate from preliminary drawings with view of establishing cost limit.
  • Cost check during detailed design to ensure budget conforms to design.
  • Advising on design economies and financial implications of project proposals
  • Taking measurements on site and from detailed drawings and preparing bills of quantities.
  • Preparation and pricing of Bills of Quantities, specifications, schedules of materials, labour and services
  • Preparation of final / pre-tender estimates
  • Preparation of tender analysis and evaluation reports for the project.
  • Drawing up construction contract documents
  • Cost control during implementation by variations and advising on financial implications.
  • Preparation of periodic/interim valuations of work done for issuance of certificate of payment
  • Advising on the cost implications of design alternatives if considered
  • Re-measure all provisional works as they are executed and valuation of variations
  • Preparation of project financial appraisals
  • Advising on dispute resolution and arbitration / litigation.
  • Represent the company in meetings with the client and consultant
The candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:-
  • Minimum Higher National Diploma in Building Economics
  • A Degree in Building Economics or Quantity Surveying from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
  • Registration with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya or  members of a recognized professional body will be an added advantage
  • Must have at least 5 years quantity surveying experience gained in a busy a construction company or consultancy environment
  • Must be computer literate and have proficiency in quantity surveying software such as MS Project, WINQS, Primavera or Master bill.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
  • Must be capable of working on projects with very tight deadlines
  • Must be flexible to varying working hours
  • A mature individual with high level of discretion and unquestionable integrity
Administrative Assistant
Reporting to the HR / Admin Manager, the Administrative Assistant Administrator will be required to provide administrative support to both internal and external parties.
His or her primary responsibilities will include:-
  • Handling of all incoming and outgoing calls
  • Ensures all visitors are well received and attended to as well as ensuring the front office is kept clean and tidy.
  • Filing of all company documents and correspondence as per prescribed system.
  • Ensures that the office and insurance licenses and are up to date
  • Supervises the Drivers and Office Assistants to ensure delivery on delegated duties.
  • Organizing and ensuring effective and efficient utilization of company vehicles
  • Responsible for managing office equipment and software
  • Oversees monthly departmental expenditure
  • Ensures that all bills are paid on time
  • Making flight bookings for members of staff as requested
  • Preparation of reports as required
The candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:-
  • Diploma in Business Administration from a recognized institution
  • Degree in Business Administration will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 5  years experience in a similar position (preferably in busy working environment
  • Basic Financial/ Accounting experience will be an added advantage
  • Computer proficient (MS Office)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills that will enable the person appropriately interact with customers tactfully
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced office setting
  • Attentive to details
  • Excellent phone etiquette
  • Team oriented, flexible and adaptable, with positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral,  written and organizational skills
  • Strong persuasion and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must have the ability to prioritize duties and work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to make decisions
  • Must be self-driven, confident and highly organized
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Highest level integrity and professionalism.
Accounts Assistant
Reporting to the Finance Team Leader, the primary responsibilities for the Accounts Assistant and will include:-
  • Being the company’s  appointed bank agent
  • Writing of cheques and payment vouchers
  • Processing and disbursing cash as per requirements
  • Processing and posting project expenses
  • Posting cash transactions onto the system
  • Filing of all related documents
The candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:-
  • CPA 1 section 3
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Highly motivated, energetic, independent self-starter with strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS office (Word/Excel)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in accounting software packages with a bias in Sage/Pastel Accounting is an added advantage
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, deliver quality results and meet deadlines
  • Honest and of high integrity
  • Team player, flexible and adaptable to different work conditions
